Frieze at 30: Three decades of art and change
 
 
Rebecca Ann Siegel is Director of Americas and Content at Frieze. She has worked with Frieze since 2018, when she was appointed as Publisher of frieze magazine. Prior to joining Frieze, Siegel co-founded Even, an arts magazine focused on global culture and politics, and held positions at Ruth Catone, a New York-based art advisory firm, and at Pace Gallery. Siegel holds a BA from Yale University and an MA from Columbia University. She is the former chair of the board of the Friends of Mount SInai, New York’s largest health system, and serves on the council of the Yale School of Art.

Jonathan Anschell is Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary of Mattel. In his role, Jonathan is in charge of all legal responsibilities for the Company’s operations and transactions, as well as corporate governance, securities, intellectual property, litigation and privacy. He also is responsible for compliance and government affairs at the Company.

March 29 - David Greene
Soul-Searching Moment for Journalism

 

David Greene is a New York Times bestselling author and award-winning journalist who spent nearly a decade hosting NPR’s flagship news program, Morning Edition. Prior to that, he served as NPR’s Moscow Bureau Chief and as the network’s White House Correspondent. He began his career as a reporter for The Baltimore Sun. David lives in Los Angeles but grew up in Pennsylvania and remains a rabid Pittsburgh sports fan.

February 22nd - David Seidel
 

The Perseverance rover and Ingenuity helicopter landed on the surface of Mars on February 18. David Seidel, manager of the Education Office at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory,  described the landing events, showed the very latest images from Mars, and described the importance of this mission for two great quests of humanity, the search for life beyond Earth and human exploration of other worlds.

 

February 8th - Dana Slatkin 
 
We were delighted to welcome Restauranteur and Master Chef Dana Slatkin who opened her talk, "Romance and Resilience in 2021", with a short tour of Violet Bistro located in Westwood Village. Our first stop was at the bar to learn how to make the signature cocktail, a Violet Spritz. Our BH Rotary Club then headed up the stairs to the Cooking School with Violet's award-winning pastry chef Jeffrey Roselle to watch a demonstration of Violet Chocolate Honey Soufflés.

February 1st - Ken Moelis
 
We were so fortunate to have Ken Moelis as our guest speaker to start February. Ken is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Moelis & Company, a global independent investment bank. We were treated to Ken’s insight and perspective on COVID-19's implications on the global economy, as well as the political landscape, SPACs, and the current events on Wall Street.
 
 
 
Women’s Roundtable
 
The Women’s Roundtable met on February 11th and voted to provide equal funding to the groups Children of the Night and CAST, which deal with child trafficking .  The next meeting will be on the 2nd Thursday of the month, March 11th at 3 pm.  Erica Felsenthal, Ph.D, is a Clinical Neuropsychologist in Beverly Hills and a provider of the UCLA Longevity Center’s Brain Boot Camp program. She will be giving us a taste of Brain Bootcamp with a Whole Brain Workout at the Round Table.
 
Real Estate Roundtable
 
The Rotary Real Estate Roundtable met on the 18th and Daniel Newman, Cofounder & CEO of Dandy, discussed his new business venture exploring opportunities in real estate technology.  As a reminder, Daniel was the Senior Class President at BHHS '15 and is earning a B.S. in Real Estate Development at USC. He's raised $3.3m from Silicon Valley investors for his technology company and is looking to speak to real estate owners/operators/developers/agents about real-world pain points that he and his team could solve.  If you're willing to provide feedback to Daniel as he explores, please fill out this short form linked here.   Jeanne Marks introduced Seth Ivanoff and Erik Fagan, Senior Investment Managers with Schnitzer West, LLC, Boulder, CO and Seattle, They respectively discussed the Office Marketplace and the impact of COVID-19.  They focused on flexibility and the creative use of space.  Current design needs are based more on human resource requirements and green engineering.  Erik and Seth thought market equilibrium would be achieved by 2023.  
 
The next Roundtable will be held on the 4th Wednesday of the month, March 24th .
 
Sip and Paint
 
The group met on the 24th at 6:30 in the evening for two hours of fun and fellowship.  Participants received a paint kit with instruction over YouTube live together.  JR Dzubak and George Nicholas set up this perfect  evening of trying something creative and new in 2021 All proceeds for this event go to the Beverly Hills Rotary Charitable Foundation
