On June 9, 2013, Interact District 5280 held its Aloha Brunch at the Hacienda Hotel to recognize the achievements of the Interactor’s during the 2012-2013 school year.  At the brunch, our own Nicole Sayegh was named an Assistant Governor of Interact District 5280 for the upcoming year. Interact is Rotary’s service club of youth ages 12-18.  The goals of Interact include developing leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrating helpfulness and respect for other, understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work, and advancing international understanding and goodwill.

With close to 200 attendees, all District Interact clubs were represented.  For the BHHS Interact Club, in attendance were Nicole, Isaac Rosenthal, Mayan Maryamian, Chelsea Simmons, Samantha Smith and Jan Pak along with Adam Heller, who is the incoming VP of New Generations, Les Bronte who is Chair of the Interact Club and myself.  I was inspired hearing these young men and women described the achievements they made during the year which included raising funds for Uganda Aid Relief, Canned Food Drives, Book Buddies, Lupus LA, National Pancreatic Society, just to name a few.  In addition, they discussed the wonderful events they held during the year and RYLA, the Rotary Youth Leadership Award weekend.

The 2012-2013 BHHS Interact Club’s membership increased to over 100 members.  This is in part thanks to the leadership of Nicole and her board of directors.  We are all proud of the work she has accomplished this year – and we look forward having her again as president for 2013-2014.

Per Past RI President Luis Vicente Giay, “Our vision for the future, now more than ever, is the difference between success and failure.  The New Generations are our investment in the future.  Let us begin to build that future today.”
